UMC PARKING GARAGE
This seven-story parking structure was developed to support the University Medical Center campus in New Orleans while integrating ground-floor retail and pedestrian activity along Tulane Avenue.
Designed to accommodate more than 1,300 vehicles, the project required extensive structural and foundation coordination within challenging urban and coastal site conditions. Fox-Nesbit provided engineering for the deep foundation systems, pile caps, grade beams, and the cast-in-place ground-floor structure supporting both the parking deck and retail spaces.
To minimize vibration impacts on nearby medical facilities, the project used auger-cast deep foundation systems instead of traditional driven piles. Structural coordination also focused on supporting large open retail areas at ground level while transitioning into an efficient precast parking structure above.
The garage superstructure incorporates precast concrete framing, double-tee deck systems, and shear wall elements engineered to withstand Gulf Coast wind loads while supporting long-term durability and high daily traffic demands.
The completed facility provides critical parking infrastructure, retail flexibility, and pedestrian connectivity for one of the region’s largest healthcare campuses.
