The Pavilion at Burden
- BATON ROUGE, LA
THE PAVILION AT BURDEN
Located within the LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens, The Pavilion at Burden was developed as an open-air gathering space designed to support educational programs, community events, and outdoor campus activities within a natural setting.
The structure features exposed glulam timber trusses, masonry support elements, structural steel connections, and a large central fireplace, creating a durable, visually integrated environment within the surrounding landscape. Structural coordination focused on supporting long-span open gathering space while maintaining the exposed architectural character of the timber and steel systems.
Because the structure remains largely open to the environment, careful coordination was required between structural framing, utility integration, wind resistance, and long-term material durability. The pavilion was designed to create a seamless connection between the built environment and the surrounding gardens and wooded areas.
The completed facility provides a flexible outdoor venue designed to support community engagement, education, and year-round public use.
