Barnes Ogden Art & Design Complex

LSU Barnes ogden art & design
This 41,000-square-foot renovation transformed a historic 1926 campus building into a modern art and design facility while preserving the character and history of the original structure.
Originally constructed as engineering shops at LSU, the building evolved over decades through multiple additions and the repurposing of studio spaces. The renovation focused on restoring the historic exterior, improving connectivity between the building’s four wings, and modernizing instructional, studio, and support spaces for current academic use.
Working within an existing historic structure required extensive coordination between preservation requirements, updated building systems, accessibility improvements, and new structural elements. Additions, including bridges, stairs, and elevator access, were carefully integrated into the existing framework while maintaining the building’s industrial character and exposed structural aesthetic.
The completed facility provides a modern, creative environment that supports art education, collaboration, and long-term campus use while preserving an important part of LSU’s architectural history.
