ST. GEORGE CATHOLIC CHURCH
This 24,500-square-foot church expansion was developed to support the continued growth of St. George Catholic Church in Baton Rouge while creating a large-scale worship environment designed for both daily and high-capacity parish use.
The expanded sanctuary includes seating for approximately 1,200 parishioners, a separate daily Mass chapel, gathering areas, and support spaces organized within a traditional cruciform layout. Structural coordination focused on creating large open-span worship spaces using custom arched glulam timber trusses engineered to support the high vaulted roof system while maintaining unobstructed sightlines throughout the sanctuary.
A key component of the project involved the integration of architectural precast concrete panels that served both aesthetic and structural functions. These panels were designed to resist significant Gulf Coast wind loads while supporting the scale and geometry of the sanctuary structure.
The project also required extensive coordination between timber framing, precast systems, roof geometry, and long-span structural connections to support the complex intersecting forms of the building design.
The completed expansion provides a resilient and highly functional worship environment designed to support congregation growth, daily parish activity, and long-term campus use.
