Old Beauregard Middle School Renovation

OLD BEAUREGARD MIDDLE SCHOOL

This project involved the restoration and expansion of the historic Old Beauregard Middle School campus in Chalmette as part of the Chalmette High School Ninth Grade Academy.

The project combined renovation of the original 1920s masonry structure with the addition of a modern four-story academic wing designed to maximize space within a constrained historic site. Structural coordination played a critical role in integrating the new steel-framed addition with the existing building while preserving the original structure and accommodating independent movement between old and new construction systems.

One of the project’s most significant challenges was the cantilevered structural design of the new addition, engineered to minimize loading on the existing historic foundations while creating expanded educational space above portions of the original building. Additional coordination was required to integrate modern building systems, accessibility improvements, and resilient infrastructure within the historic campus environment.

The completed facility preserves the architectural character of the original school while providing a modern educational environment that supports long-term campus use and future student needs.
