Our Lady of the Lake – Heart and Vascular Tower and Emergency Dept Trauma Center

This project involved a major expansion and renovation of the Our Lady of the Lake medical campus in Baton Rouge, including a new 10-story Heart & Vascular Tower, Emergency Department Trauma Center expansion, helipad structure, and connecting skybridge infrastructure.

The 302,000-square-foot hospital tower utilized a steel-framed structural system with composite floor construction, concrete shear walls, steel moment frames, and deep foundation systems designed to support the significant demands of a large-scale healthcare facility. The project also included a 29,000-square-foot Emergency Department renovation and a 16,000-square-foot addition designed to enhance trauma and emergency care operations within the active hospital environment.

Structural coordination played a critical role throughout the project, particularly in the design of complex foundation systems, elevated healthcare spaces, and long-span connecting structures. Specialized elements included reinforced mat foundations supporting high-load shear wall cores, a raised post-tensioned concrete helipad, and a multi-level skybridge connecting the new tower to the existing parking structure while accommodating elevation differences and continuous hospital circulation requirements.

The completed expansion provides a modern healthcare environment designed to support critical care services, patient access, and long-term medical campus growth.
