This fire station facility was developed to provide resilient emergency response infrastructure for a highly vulnerable coastal area of St. Bernard Parish following the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Designed for long-term operation during severe weather events, the station incorporates elevated critical systems, reinforced structural framing, and specialized flood-resistant construction methods to withstand hurricane-force winds and storm surge. The facility includes apparatus space, firefighter living quarters, support areas, and emergency response functions designed to maintain operational continuity during and after major weather events.
Structural coordination focused heavily on resiliency, including elevated occupied spaces, specialized wall systems designed to relieve hydrostatic pressure during flooding, and foundation systems capable of supporting long-term performance within challenging coastal soil conditions.
